How Elon Musk’s X rebranding plan for Twitter faced a snag from the police.
When police intervened to halt the removal of the old name
at the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, Elon Musk's effort to rebrand the
firm as X suffered a setback.
Workers were observed erasing the initial letter of the word
Twitter on Monday before they were halted by the local police department for
continuing "unauthorized work," according to a department warning.
The social network company allegedly neglected to inform
security and the building's owner about their intention to take down the sign
at their Market Street headquarters, according to the police. After some
uncertainty, police were called, but it was eventually determined that no crime
had been committed. On one side of the sign, only a blue bird and the letter
"R" remained after initial work by a cherry picker operator. Musk
declared on Sunday that the unique bird design would be replaced with Twitter's
new emblem, an X. The millionaire founder of the website wrote on Twitter:
"And soon we will say goodbye to the Twitter brand and gradually all the
birds."
The logo was shared by Twitter user Sawyer Merritt, a
co-founder of a now-defunct clothing company, who stated that the font was used
for a cancelled podcast. Musk had urged his millions of followers to support
the project.
The most recent and maybe most contentious modification made
by Musk since he paid $44 billion for the social networking site last year is
the switch to the X name.
In a tweet on the redesign on Monday, Twitter's CEO Linda
Yaccarino said: "It is a rare occurrence - in life or in business - that
you get a second chance to make a significant impact. Twitter made a
significant impact and altered how we communicate. X will now proceed and
change the world's town square.
